South Austin

The area lying south of the Colorado River and running south to the Hays County line is commonly referred to as South Austin and loosely referred to as “Bubba Land.”  South Austinites are proud of their southern slice of the city and the lands beyond.  Home to landmarks such as the legendary dance hall – The Broken Spoke; the once late night hangout and now a Bob Cole restaurant with a live music venue – Hill’s Cafe; the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center; Barton Creek; St. Edward’s University and much, much more, South Austin is blooming!  Often thought to be the more “laid-back” side, South Austin is experiencing a spurt of growth with newly added retail and office complexes, hospitals, schools and master-planned communities all adding to the comforts of life in South Austin.  And we can’t forget South Congress, dubbed “SoCo” with it’s eclectic collection of shops and eateries, even a vintage trailer sporting neon lights flashing “Hey Cupcake!”  You’ve got to come see what lies south of the river!
